Purpose. To assess the effect of linseed oil, with which live feeds and commercial starter feed were enriched, on growth, survival, and T- and B-cell and humoral components of adaptive immunity in sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus Linnaeus, 1758) juveniles.

Methodology. The study was conducted in two stages lasting 28 and 50 days, respectively. In the first stage, 2 experimental and 1 control group of fish were involved, in the second stage ‒ 1 experimental and 1 control group. At the first stage, sterlet larvae and fry were fed for 28 days with Artemia salina nauplii enriched with a liposomal preparation of linseed oil of our own production at concentrations of 0.5 and 1.0 ml/L. At the second stage, the juveniles were transferred to a starter feed, with the introduction of linseed oil in the amount of 0.1% of the weight of the feed fed. During the study, growth rates, survival rates, and T- and B-lymphocyte immune system indicators were determined. The liposomal preparation was prepared using vitamin E and lecithin in an ultrasonic disperser at a frequency of 35 Hz. All physicochemical conditions for fish farming met the regulatory values for recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) with sterlet.

Findings. The use of linseed oil contributed to improved growth and survival of sterlet juveniles. After 28 days, the average weight of fish from the experimental groups exceeded the control by 10.7 and 27.7%, and their survival was higher by 71.7 and 76.2%. The addition of linseed oil did not cause significant changes in the total number of T and B lymphocytes, but contributed to an increase in the proportion of functionally active high-avidity T lymphocytes and a decrease in the number of cells with low receptor activity. The results obtained are consistent with modern ideas about the role of α-linolenic and linoleic acids in the formation of the structural and functional state of the membranes of immunocompetent cells, the regulation of the expression of membrane receptors and the maintenance of immune homeostasis.

Originality. The effect of a liposomal preparation of linseed oil on the growth, survival, and functional state of T- and B-cell and humoral components of specific immunity for sterlet juveniles was investigated for the first time.

Practical Value. The results can be used to optimize technologies for growing sturgeon juveniles and increase their viability in conditions of intensive aquaculture.

Keywords: sturgeon farming, aquaculture, fish feeding, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), sturgeon juveniles, juvenile survival.
