Artificial intelligence
The editorial policy of the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and technologies with its support is primarily based on the principles set out in relevant recommendations and regulatory documents:
• "Authorship and Artificial Intelligence Tools" of the Committee on Ethics of Scientific Publications СОРЕ;
• "Using Generative Artificial Intelligence and AI-powered Technologies in Copywriting" «Elsevier»;
• "Recommendations on the use of artificial intelligence in scientific communication" of the European Association of Scientific Editors EASE;
• EU Artificial Intelligence Act;
• Recommendations of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO;
• Law of Ukraine "On Copyright and Related Rights";
• Law of Ukraine "On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activities";
• Law of Ukraine "On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Information";
• The Law of Ukraine "On Academic Integrity";

The main guiding principles of the editorial board of the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" regarding AI and technologies with its support are responsible use, transparency, and mandatory human control.
The main provisions of the editorial policy of the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" regarding the use of AI and technologies supporting it are:
For all
1. All participants in the publication process are strictly prohibited from uploading manuscript materials to public large language models (LLMs).
2. AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT and LLM, are not eligible to be listed as authors of manuscripts because they cannot make a significant original contribution to the research and cannot be held responsible for the published data.
3. AI and technologies supporting it are permissible only as a tool in the work on the publication, and not as a source of scientific content.
4. It is forbidden to cite AI as an author or use it to make decisions that require critical thinking or the formation of significant opinions.
5. People (authors, reviewers) bear full responsibility for the use of AI or technologies supporting it.
6. At the beginning of the processing of materials, authors and reviewers must clearly and reasonably explain in a letter to the editorial office ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) the fact of using AI or technologies with its support.
For authors
1. An obligation to transparently inform (at the beginning of the “Materials and Methods” section) about the fact of their use of AI or technologies with its support with a clear justification of the appropriateness of this, providing the name and version of all programs or tools used by the author team, as well as markers for identifying any content created using AI or technologies with its support.
2. It is allowed to use AI or technologies with its support for editing lexical and grammatical forms, searching and clustering literature sources and related areas, generating topic variants and clarifying terms, and automating routine procedures.
3. It is not recommended to use AI or technologies with its support for generating data, images, tables - however, it is permissible only under the condition of mandatory further verification by a person and informing about it. In the absolute majority of cases, generative images (etc.) and finishing details in illustrative material (histological sections, photos of fish, microscopy, etc.) are prohibited.
4. Analysis and classification of real primary data, SWOT analysis using AI or technology with its support are permissible only with mandatory further verification by a person and information about this.
5. It is strictly forbidden to generate text, facts, results, sources using AI or technology supported by it, as well as use them to interpret results, write an abstract or any other part of the article, fabricate data, and simulate an experiment.
Failure to comply with the editorial policy of the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and technologies supporting it is grounds for retraction.
The editorial board of the journal "Fisheries Science of Ukraine" reserves the right:
• to screen manuscripts for the use of generative AI systems by involving automated detection tools, expert evaluation, and additional queries to authors, primarily regarding the “raw” primary data;
• reject papers if incorrect or fictitious references or DOIs are found, a suspicious style of presentation of the material contradicts other parts of the text, and other "logical anomalies" in the structure of the paper are found.
