Prospects of using hull-less (naked) oat in carp feeding in the conditions of pond farming in Ukraine (a review)

Purpose. To determine the prospects for using hull-less (naked) oat as a component of artificial feeds for carp when grown in pond farms in modern Ukraine, since this particular type of fish and aquaculture technology are the most traditional and widespread in the aquaculture of our country.

Findings. The main principles of the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine are outlined, which determine the main principles of conducting domestic aquaculture. The extraordinary role of carp cultivation in Ukraine has been revealed. The article highlights many years of scientific achievements in the field of feeding this fish species by researchers at the Institute of Fisheries, the leading institution in Ukraine for fish farming in inland waters for decades. The prospects for introducing hull-less (naked) oat into the diet of carp from different age groups, under conditions of cultivation in ponds, are substantiated. Comparing hull-less (naked) oat with hulled (husked) oat, as well as rye and wheat, and other traditional cereals for Ukraine. The biochemical composition of its grain was analyzed, primarily the ratio of fractions and the actual content of protein and carbohydrates, as well as fats and the balance of fatty acids, the presence of micro- and macroelements, the predominant vitamins and other biologically active substances, and the characteristics of the amino acid composition. The above indicators are systematized and analyzed in the context of the physiological needs of carp cultivated in ponds of Ukraine. It has been proven that due to the physiological characteristics of carp, the basis of its diet in pond conditions is cereals, and for them, hull-less (naked) oat can become an alternative, especially in the Polissya and Forest-Steppe zones.

Practical Value. The presented review can be useful to everyone involved in the system of scientific support, decision-making and management organization, as well as production in aquaculture, primarily carp farming products, primarily in the conditions of pond aquaculture in Ukraine. At the same time, the data provided can be useful for participants in the educational process of professional higher education and modern Ukrainian farmers and feed producers.
